Center of the Sun – Machine Gun
January 18, 2013 | TKF 1North Carolina doesn’t seem like the celestial type of place but it does contain at least one luminary band. Center of the Sun is a dreamy pop-rock band that carries a bit of grit & gloom for that added dose of heaviness. Ally Hoffman’s vocals are a wonderful addition to the fuzzy guitars and solid drum work. Upon first listen, Machine Gun sounds reminiscent of early 90s alternative but with modern flair. Vaguely like The Cranberries but with a style all their own. Read More
Young Wonder – S/T
January 17, 2013 | TKFJoin us as we take a trip to Cork, Ireland and indulge in some truly great tunes. It’s electronic pop meets glitch with a dash of chillwave thrown in for good measure. Young Wonder’s self titled album is a collection of five songs and three remixes. Although not quite as dark as Crystal Castles or Purity Ring, fans of the aforementioned artists will likely enjoy Young Wonder. Our recommended track is Tumbling Backwards but the entire album is pretty strong throughout.
Tashaki Miyaki – Under Cover
January 15, 2013 | TKFLos Angeles based Tashaki Miyaki recently released their album, Under Cover. It’s a dreamy glo-fi take on some of your favorite songs from Father John Misty, Guns N Roses, and more. The band’s original songs are great as well so be sure to check that out on Bandcamp.
mountaintops. – S/T
January 14, 2013 | TKFBlending chiptune with post-rock elements to create a cool instrumental sound many will enjoy. The self-titled EP is a bit lo-fi but we enjoy that quality and find the album engaging. Members Francisco Cabrera, Daniel Pazarán, Juan Gómez, and Joshimar Vergara have caught our attention and we look forward to what the Pachuca, México based band has in store for the future. Read More
Death Ledger – S/T EP
January 12, 2013 | TKFNeed some dark and grungy chillwave to kick off your night? Look no further than Toronto based Death Ledger. A founding member of Birthday Girls, Kevin Donnelly’s side project is a bit of a departure from the more punk electro Birthday Girls. Death Ledger draws darker influences from artists like Crystal Castles and Salem. The self-titled EP shows some range, even venturing into a dark remix of a Pussycat Dolls song. Read More
Tannhäuser – Voces
January 9, 2013 | TKFTannhäuser is just one of those bands that grab you upon first listen. Rhythm meets ambient; their music is an ethereal landscape that is perfect for studying or just chilling out on a lazy afternoon. The Seville, Spain four-piece let their music do the talking, making this instrumental album very similar to other artists we love like This Will Destroy You and Explosions In The Sky. Read More
Ravens & Chimes – Holiday Life
January 7, 2013 | TKFAt first listen, you could put Ravens & Chimes into the same neighborhood with bands like Arcade Fire and Beach House. But listen further and you’ll see why R&C deserves their time in the spotlight. Holiday Life is a trip through Brooklyn streets and hip places you have yet to discover. Read More
